MACMH's 2008 Poster Contest Opens Up!
As many of our long-time MACMH friends and supporters know, our annual Poster Contest has produced literally hundreds of images that promote positive mental health messages. And over the years we have come to realize that the artwork of children and adolescents is a powerful vehicle to open up conversations about mental health.
So this year, in addition to posters, we decided to “open up” our contest and invite a wide variety of artwork including poems, fairy tales, photographs, essays, stories, paintings, and drawings. We are also inviting submissions from youth, ages 5-21, then we’ll showcase several submissions in our new literary and visual arts magazine Open•Up!
We realize that mental health isn’t always the easiest topic to discuss with young people, so we have created several activities and fact sheets that help begin the conversation. These materials can be adapted for virtually any age group and address several different modes of learning including dramatic arts, creative movement, visual arts, and language arts. To download activities, visit our Open•Up web page.
