MACMH Honors 2007 Poster
Contest Award Winners
In May of this year MACMH was pleased to honor the 5 students whose designs won our 13th Annual Children’s Mental Health Poster Contest. All of the winners received their awards in ceremonies at their schools. In addition to a wide array of prizes, all the recipients received a very special letter of commendation from Governor Pawlenty recognizing their achievement.
Each year MACMH uses the images and messages created by the poster contest artists to promote positive mental health information. This year we are proudly displaying the winning designs in our office windows, and we have adapted the designs to make bookmarks and stickers, which we distributed every student at each of the winners’ schools. We also gave away the bookmarks and stickers to everyone who attended our annual conference in Duluth. We know these messages are being well-received and having a positive impact. In fact, one Poster Contest winner said, “When I gave my bookmarks away, my classmates wanted me to sign them. I felt like a famous person.”
About our 2007 Contest Winners
In an unprecedented showing from one school, three of the top five posters came from Montevideo Middle School (MMS). In addition, three of the six honorable mentions also came from MMS. Other winners this year were from Homecroft Elementary in St. Paul and Mountain Lake Elementary School in Mountain Lake.
To recognize Montevideo’s truly remarkable efforts, MACMH staff member Matt Jenson traveled to Montevideo Middle School to join in the school’s celebration and to personally award the prizes (which included the Governor’s commendation) to each of the six students during an all-school assembly. MACMH especially congratulates Todd Swedzinski, Montevideo’s school social worker, for working with the Montevideo students to so thoughtfully and articulately express their ideas about mental health!
