Hard to Handle Children with Mental Health
Disorders
Dr. Myklebust will describe some of the typical behaviors seen in many young people who have Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, ADHD, and Bipolar Disorder.  She will explain what's going on in the brains of children and adolescents who have these disorders and will share practical interventions for at home and at school.  Participants will have an opportunity to practice what they have learned.

Dr. Myklebust is the Mental and Chemical Health Supervisor in Intermediate District 287, a district which provides a wide array of educational services to thirteen member school districts in Hennepin County , as well as to the Minneapolis Public Schools. She works with children, teenagers, and young adults with learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, neurobiological disorders, traumatic brain injury and mental health issues. Dr. Myklebust uses PET and SPECT scans to teach students about the brain and psychotropic medication. She believes that students learn best from a multi-modal, interactive approach and likes to involve students as peer teachers.
