This three-part series is about conducting functional behavioral assessments. Part 1: “An IEP Team’s Introduction to Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans” helps educators understand the requirements of IDEA with regard to addressing behavior problems and implementing the fundamental principals and techniques of functional behavioral assessment and positive behavioral supports for students with behavior problems. Part 2: “Conducting A Functional Behavioral Assessment” provides an in-depth discussion of the rationale for functional behavioral assessment and instructions for how to conduct the process. Part 3: “Creating Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans and Supports” discusses how to use the information gathered during the functional behavioral assessment process to develop and implement positive behavioral intervention plans that address both the short- and long-term needs of the student.
